Bike Work Stand

Bike work stands make it extremely easy to work on any kind of bicycle repairs that may need to be done. Bike work stands come in a variety of styles to choose from. Each different style is catered to what you ultimately are going to need it for.

There are portable work stands, wall mount work stands, bench top workstands, and floor mounted workstands.

It is ultimately your decision of which one will work best for you.

The portable bike work stand allows for easy break down and set-up, so you can make quick fixes and repairs anywhere.

These stands tend to be pretty lightweight for easy carrying; they offer a 360 degree clamp for easy work, a wide mouth clamp that can handle 24mm to 76mm frames, and fold down to 41”.

The only difference between the portable models and the floor mounted models is weight and stability. The floor mounted bicycle models have the same features but can handle a heavier load and are more stable.

Wall mount repair stands and desktop bike workstands both work in similar ways. They are mounted to either the wall or a work bench to provide the ultimate amount of free space. These are great for working in cramped areas. The stand features 360 degree work ability, and the clamp is designed to protect your cycle frame from any damage.

Bicycle Work Stand – Buying Considerations

When considering which bike work or repair stand to purchase there are a few elements that should not be overlooked. Your budget may ultimately be the determinant factor of which type of cycle work stand you ultimately purchase. Bike stands range in price from $50 up to $300. Once your budget has been determined, it’s time to dive in and see what features are most important and cannot be compromised.

How stable is the bike repair stand? It’s important that while you’re working on your bike you don’t have to worry about if the stand will fall over or not. Generally the cheaper workstands are less stable and the more expensive stands can handle a heavier bike. Let’s face it, who wants their $3,000 bike to fall over on them while they are doing a repair job; any takers?

Portability is a concern for many people. Will you need to pack up your bike work stand regularly and bring it with you as you go on a lot of road trips? Most of the portable style cycle stands are actually more expensive and tend to be a little less sturdy as well.

Clamp quality is a big concern as well. The professional grade bicycle work stand options have the best quality clamps; they can easily be adjusted to fit any size bike that you may need to do some work on.

Usually the more expensive the stand, the higher quality of the clamps and the wider the variety of tube diameter adjustability there will be. Ultimately, getting padded clamps will be the best idea as they will prevent any scratching and will provide a nice strong hold on the frame.

If you work in tight quarters, a portable stand could be the best option for you, or a bench-mounted bicycle work stand can also provide a good amount of extra room while you’re working on your bike.

These are a few of the things to consider before purchasing a bike work stand. We’ve provided a few pictures on this site of the different types of repair stands available on the market, and also specifically discuss the Topeak bike stand, Topeak two-bike stand, Park Tool stand, and RAD Cycle stand. have a look around!
